Breast Augmentation
Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation (augmentation mammaplasty) is one of the most popular and well-known procedures. There is no doubt that this procedure results in uplifting one’s morale and increasing their self-confidence. The surgical goals of the procedure are to increase breast volume, improve the shape of the breasts and make them symmetrical using adipose tissue from the patient’s own body or implants.
There are many breast augmentation cases ranging from correcting a hypoplasia or an asymmetry, due to congenital or other causes, to increasing the breast size of women who wish to have bigger breasts. This procedure mainly concerns women who are interested in increasing their breast size. A large number of them are women who were recently pregnant. Breasts lose their firmness and suffer from volume atrophy after childbirth, due to certain processes, such as breastfeeding. Augmentation mammaplasty can reshape the breasts increasing their volume and improving their appearance. This procedure can also be combined with a breast lift (mastopexy).
Breast augmentation can be performed on women of all ages provided that breast development is complete and the size of the breasts has remained the same for at least a year. This procedure that results in increasing a person’s self-esteem is part of the Mommy Makeover procedures.
Choosing the implants
There are many breast implants that are different in type, shape, size and texture. The patient’s body type, actual breast size, skin elasticity and expectations are factors taken into account in order to choose the right implant. A number of measurements that are necessary in order to achieve the best possible outcome are also carried out.
Implant quality assurance is very important for this operation. Dr. Varnalidis always uses the safest implants that have been certified and approved. Every patient receives the identification of the implant that was used during the operation, so that they know for sure what type of implant it was.
Using tissue from the patient’s own body
In certain cases, breast augmentation surgery can also be performed using adipose tissue from the patient’s own body. The extracted body fat of the patient can be used in many different plastic surgery procedures, as well.
In certain cases, breast augmentation using body fat can be very successful in women. The patient’s body fat is extracted through liposuction during the operation and inserted in the breasts using a specialized technique. Dr. Varnalidis uses this method in cases that meet certain criteria.
Brief description of the procedure
This procedure usually requires general anesthesia. The underarm incision (which leaves no scars after healing), the peripapillary incision (around the nipple) and the submammary sulcus incision are the most common incisions for this type of operation. Dr. Varnalidis uses one of these three incisions each time, depending on the case. The implant can either be inserted under the fascia of the muscle (subfascial technique) or under the muscle in order to minimize its visibility and reduce the risk of complications.
The subfascial technique is one of the latest methods of breast augmentation. Dr. Varnalidis uses this technique, which reduces the post-surgery recovery period significantly, in order to achieve a natural result.
In certain cases, such as sagging breasts, the dual plane subpectoral augmentation technique is preferred. This technique can also be combined with a breast lift. After the implant insertion, the incisions are closed in such a way so that the best aesthetic outcome is achieved.
