Platelet-rich plasma (PRP)

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has been a great addition to cosmetic surgery techniques, in recent years, with spectacular results. PRP is blood plasma that has been enriched with platelets. PRP, which is an autologous therapy, is used in a variety of treatments. In cosmetic surgery, it is mostly used to prevent the skin of the face, neck and hands from aging by accelerating the rejuvenation process, as well as to treat alopecia and increase tissue volume in combination with fat grafting (Vampire Facelift).

The transplantation of autologous blood plasma with a high concentration of platelets in the desired areas is the reason for the spectacular results of PRP. Autologous therapy means that PRP is collected from and injected in the same patient and that it is completely compatible with the human body. The injection of high concentrations of platelets causes the release of various growth factors (PDGF, IGF-1, IGF-2, etc) and cytokines that stimulate the regenerative capacity of the tissues. PRP is also used in reconstructive surgery, as it can accelerate the healing process.

The procedure begins with the collection of a small quantity of the patient’s blood. Then, the blood is centrifuged in order to collect the platelet-rich plasma that will be injected into the desired areas. Dr. Varnalidis specializes in this technique and he uses it in combination with fat grafting in order to achieve a permanent and natural result.

PRP can be combined with other facial cosmetic surgery procedures, such as the MACS lift, the brow lift, Microfat grafting and blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) and it can also be used to treat alopecia (in combination with a hair transplantation or independently).

Dr. Varnalidis uses techniques that yield the optimal aesthetic result and require the smallest incisions.

Safeguarding your health is my number one priority.
